Railroad
Changhua is deep-rooted in railroad history, including Changhua Railway Round House (municipal historic monument), Xihu Sugar Refinery, Changhua Railway Hospital (formerly Gaobingo Restaurant) etc. In particular, the most popular among railway buffs is the Changhua Railway Round House (municipal historic monument), the only one of its kind in Taiwan. Constructed during the Japanese Occupation Period, the locomotive repair shop is a well-preserved gem of the railway culture in Taiwan. The round house is located next to Zhangmei Rd. in Changhua City and features 12 station tracks. There is a 360 degree rotating platform (turntable) outside the round house, and the fan-shaped garage resembles the shape of a turntable, making it an essential destination among train and photography enthusiasts! The “Half-size cars” in Xihu Sugar Refinery play a pivotal transportation role in central and southern Taiwan. Now, it has been transformed into colorful small trains for tourism purposes. There is also the Changhua Railway Round House (formerly Gaobingo Restaurant) that was converted into a hospital after Taiwan’s Recovery, thus it is endowed with historic significance, as it is a testament to the thriving economy of Changhua at the time.
