Dacheng Gongguan Mutton Hot Pot’s storefront is quite astonishing, because despite a lack of extravagant exterior, the restaurant is always jam-packed during weekends. Gongguan mutton hot pot is stewed in a casserole using Chinese herbs; hence, it offers a lighter flavor than traditional mutton hot pots.
Unlike mutton hot pots in Xihu, which utilizes mutton slices, Gongguan’s mutton hot pot is slow-cooked using muttonchops until they are soft and mushy.
Its signature-fried noodles are also the brainchild of Gongguan mutton hot pot, where noodles are deep-fried to produce a unique, flavorsome, crunchy-on-the-outside but tender-on-the-inside texture.
