Founded in 1947 by Mr. Y.S. Hung at Douyuan-Guangfu intersection of Beidou Township, it is named “Horng Ryen Jen”. Beidou was as famous as Tainan, Lukang and Bangka, known as “Bao Dou” (literally bucket filled with treasures) for crunchy candies, ba-wan (Taiwanese meatball) and dried pork crisps. Crunchy candies were created in the Japanese colonial period and the most famous is the representative “Horng Ruey Jen” cake.
