AD 1940 (Showa 15th year)
The heirs of Zheng Changhua Ba Wan today are Yang YaLan and Yang YaZhu. Their great-grandfather died young leaving behind many children. In order to maintain the family's livelihood, his wife Xu ShuiTao discussed with Yang YongXiang, the eldest son, and decided to learn from a master in Lukang to make the traditional snack – Ba Wan.
After arduous practice, the master finally approved Yang YongXiang and his mother starting peddling ba wan on the street, which began the inheritance story of Changhua Ba Wan passed down from the first generation to the fourth generation.
After a while, Yang YongXiang felt that his business was limited due to changeable weather, uncertain peddling routes and possibility of ticketing by the police, as a result, he tried to transform from a peddler to a street vendor on the opposite side of "Lai LiCheng Garment Manufacture" on Taiping Street, and then moved to the place close to "Ginkgo Canteen" on Chenling Road the following year. When his business gradually stabilized, Yang YongXiang believed that street stand was not a long-term solution, therefore, he rented a corner of the current location of Zheng Changhua Ba Wan (No. 203, Chenling Road, Changhua City) in 1947. Under the influence of the family, the third generation of successor Yang BiDuan, the sixth eldest son, decided to inherit his father's business in 1978. In addition to retaining the traditional taste of ba wan, he strived for innovation to give ba wan a new life and to offer customers a brand new flavor experience. Even though he encountered numerous failures and bottlenecks during the research and development process, he still insisted on developing the innovated flavor, expecting to pass it on and carry forward the achievement.
Zheng Changhua Ba Wan, which has lasted for 82 years and has been handed down through four generations, is currently run by the fourth-generation (daughter, son-in-law and mother). What is passed down to the fourth generation is not only the traditional taste, but also the spirit of being serious in work and doing truehearted business. Even in the face of changing times and gradually decline of traditional snacks, they still show the unique innovative spirit of Taiwanese. Base on the good taste of more than 80 years, continue to carefully develop new technologies and offer a wonderful taste experience by the new flavor of ba wan.
