The well-known specialty store in Huatan Township was formerly an herb store. After the second generation proprietor took over the business, he applied his creativity to prepare kiln fired chicken using the earthen kiln that was used to roast herbs. There are many herbs planted inside the vegetable garden near the store, thus herbs such as common leafflower herb, bidens pilosa and bignose rhinacanthus into the kiln fired chicken. Wulong Herb Store’s kiln fired chicken is also known as baoza (exploding) chicken, because during roasting, the paper wrapping outside the chicken will explode due to the high heat in the earthen kiln. Baoza chicken is prepared using silkie chicken that is stuffed with Chinese herbs and millet wine.
