C-119 Military Aircraft Park
Fairchild manufactured C-119 transport plane. Nicknamed the “Flying Boxcar”, it had an endurance of 13 hours. The US loaned the ROC Air Force 16 C-119s on October 28, 1958. They were officially accepted on July 8, 1959 to replace C-46.
C-119 started serving the air force in 1958. From a fleet of nearly 100 aircrafts, C-119s have been progressively decommissioned since 1995, and now only roughly 35 are in working order. The aircraft designed for transportation, supply, airdrop, airborne troops and rescue mission has been completely replaced by the much better C-130. At the end of its service life, the C-119 was primarily used for carrying paratroopers for parachuting training or used for airlifting cargo. Occasionally, it was used for carrying officers returning to base or going home.
C-119 was decommissioned on December 19, 1997, having flown over 750,000 hours during its service life of 39 years.
