Wood patching artist Wen-Pin Huang developed his skills from traditional wood mold making. Daring to challenge and innovate, unwanted small pieces of wood have become his curios. Out of the love for wood and based on the recycling concept in environmental protection, he patches wood with lamination and creates pieces of stunning wood patch mosaic craft using lathe technology and the bearing principle in coordination with the beauty of the wood’s color. From the pursuit of accuracy and standard in wood mold making, he transforms objects into practical craftworks. Alongside the gorgeous color design and long-term research, he has developed unrivaled skills and won numerous awards, including the Golden Technology Award at the 5th Top 10 Technology Models, an honorable mention at the 4th Huang Si Art Exhibition, a finalist at the 12th Taiwan Craft Competition, a finalist at the Taiwan Craft Competition in 2008, and a finalist at the 2015 Taiwan International Competition Exhibition of Wood Sculpture.
In 2020, Huang was certified for the “Taiwan Crafts Workshop”. At the “Wonderful Flask Crafts Studio”, Huang displays each perfectly made wood patch work made after careful and accurate calculation and perfect and detailed design planning. In additional to woodworks, these elaborately made wood flasks are exquisite crafts. By adding a mechanism, they will become innovative artworks. According to Huang, skills require the influence of arts, while arts need the support of skills. When faithfully doing one thing in a life, this is “dedication”.
