The Huge Nine-Dragon Banyan Tree is located under the embankment of Zhuoshui River, at Tiantou village, Zhutang Township, Changhua County. Nurtured by the Zhuoshui River – the mother river of Taiwan, a small banyan tree began to grow there years ago. A century later, it has become the “largest” tree in Taiwan. Covering an area of about 9917.4 m2, it has become a “single-tree forest”. On the trunk branches and roots crisscross over each other, with thick air-roots protruding like dragon’s paws stretching out at all sides. It looks like nine dragons flying up to the sky, therefore, it is called the “nine-dragon” banyan. Before the construction of Xiluo Bridge, it was the landmark for people’s returning trips when buying daily necessities. At the bottom of the tree, there is a shrine of the Three Saints Buddha, who answer most of the wishes of those who pray.
The old banyan tree is supported by many huge and thick roots, each of which stretch far into different directions, with their tips creeping all over the ground. Meanwhile, the branches and leaves grow upward into a huge green canopy, forming the green castle we now have.
