Also known as “Xinghua Mazu Temple”, it is one of the earliest Mazu temple in Lukang. In Kangxi 23 (1684) when people from Xinghua Fujian immigrated to Taiwan, they brought along Mazu and built a temple near Caozai city, Lukang, which has been called Xingan Temple for its meanings: “Prosperous and safe” and “prosperous and peaceful”.
Xinan Temple was partially repaired in Guangxu 12 (1886). In 1983, it was listed as tier-3 ancient monument and was repaired with a government subsidy in 1993. It was completed in 1996 with a securing ceremony. Xingan Temple of more than three hundred years’ history has preserved it ancient look. In terms of layout, it is single open, 2 jin and 1 yuan and divided as the front hall, shanchuan hall, worship pavilion and the main hall. The temple is a street-house building that faces Xinghua alley in the front and Chungshan road at the back. The wooden pillars in the temple adopt the attached-wall-and –pillar technique, while the wooden structure above the door is a sculpture and structure of the ancient temple.
