The staff dormitory group of Erlin Public School was built by Japanese in Showa 13 (1938, Japanese era) for the use of the school’s teaching staff. The dormitory is a single-family building equipped with rear eaves corridor. The roof was made of Japanese-style roof tile and the wall was made of wooden clapboard siding. The dormitory consisted of three parts: podium, lecture hall and entrance. The podium was the spiritual center of the lecture hall, and it was the visual focus of the lecture hall because of its high platform base. The sides of the podium were equipped with VIP room, storage room and preparation room, which of them owned independent entrances and exits. Thanks to the stable main structure of the wooden building and teachers’ continuously using, the appearance and condition of the dormitory are still intact after going through many natural disasters for decades. After the renovation, the dormitory and the auditorium of the school become a member of the educational, cultural and leisure special zone, which otherwise consists of the catholic church located west (Erlin historic building), Wude Martial Arts Center and Renhe Temple (a third-level historical site in Erlin).

Since the old dormitory building group is a proof of teachers living in school for education affairs in those years, the restoration of its original appearance is the way to complement the historical image of Taiwan's national education. In order to highlight its historical value and to preserve this cultural area for alumni and future generations to remember, it is worthy to be registered as a historical building for permanent preservation.

The principal's dormitory was equipped with different heights of roof and wooden clapboard siding, and was decorated with 60cm-height floor to keep ventilating and dry. In addition, the academic director’s dormitory is a well-preserved two-family building whose roof at the entrance of the portal is higher. It was constructed in wood and was decorated with Japanese black roof tiles, wooden clapboard siding, and wooden sliding glass doors at the portal. Moreover, there are two other dormitories damaged by Typhoon Wayne in 1986 hence were rebuilt with red-brick walls while the black-tiles roof was the only one preserved. These 2 buildings are now inhabited by retired teachers. Except those, there is a relatively simple constructed dormitory building next to the academic director’s one.
