Bumao Flower Market (Garden) is located near Fangyuan Interchange of National Highway No. 3 (mile marker 217). While heading towards Guanghua Rd. in Fangyuan, Changhua, make a right turn to Jiazhong St. to reach the newly opened garden café－Bumao Flower Market Garden. The owner of the establishment is an avid horticulturalist that was in the flower business. After the 921 earthquake, he returned to his hometown in Fangyuan with tremendous vision to materialize his plan.
When I visited the area for the first time a year ago, I was mesmerized by the sea of blooming yellow rapeseeds. As I followed the winding country road to reach the vast garden, I was overwhelmed with emotion. Mr. Jian, the proprietor depicted to me his vision for the garden café, including flower appreciation area, café, recreational landscaping, etc.
A year later, his ideas all came to fruition. In this year’s winter, when I visited the café again, Bumao Flower Market (Garden) appears to be a neighborly garden on the street inundated with billboards, emanating an aura of exoticness. When in Fangyuan, you absolutely cannot miss the “back garden” to admire flowers and enjoy some coffee or scented tea.
