Wild Bird Paradise
Travel southbound from Lukang and follow the Yanhai Rd., Provincial Highway 17, head west until Xinsheng Rd. in Fuxing Township, or continue southwards until Lane 485 of Fanghan Rd. in Fangyuan Township and make a right turn to reach Fubao Wetland and Hanbao Wetland. These are the perfect habitat for wild birds, thanks to the efforts of bird lovers that helped to transform them into a wild bird sanctuary and a paradise for bird watching.
Visiting the wetland, you can explore the world of water birds, take a leisurely stroll on the white sandy beach, admire the driftwood landscape, taste freshly squeezed milk and sample authentic local delicacies.
The tidal flat makes the Fubao Wetland a perfect place for oyster farming. The small cabins standing in the middle of the sea are the guarding posts of the oyster farmers. This tidal flat sees a tidal range of 4-5m every day, so be careful while you are having fun here because the rising tide can submerge the road. Of course, you can buy fresh oysters from the farmers to take home or just borrow someone's kitchen to cook up some sesame oil oyster soup for instant enjoyment. The fresh and sweet taste will make you want to come back for more.
In the over 20 hectares of wetlands in Fuxing Township, 7 hectares are planted with mangroves and myoporum bontioides. A black plastic net fence is set up as a bird-watching wall and a bikeway has been designed to develop this area into a full-fledged recreational center (Abstracted from Changhua County Government (2003) Changhua County Recreational Agriculture Destination Guide).
Currently, a section of protective fence and several bird-watching cabins have been set up at Fubao Wetland and the surrounding area is a mangrove field under restoration. Volunteer guides are also available on the holidays. Several species of birds are seen all year round, including Ruddy-breasted Crake, wren warblers, and red turtle dove, as well as several species of migratory birds, like little terns and redshanks. Through a telescope, the bird-watchers can also see the egrets extending their long necks searching for food by the rice paddies or the moorhens strolling leisurely in the pond. It is these enchanting sights that will make you want to come back again.
Provides outdoor education courses for different levels of schools through advanced reservations, as well as half day or full day eco-tour for nature lovers. It is hoped to combine the small efforts of “Fubao Ecological Education Park” with local communities and residents to organize bird watching activities. Moreover, combining the resources of the local dairy farming industry and landscapes – including coastal plants and benthos – to revitalize local communities. In doing so, they not only provide more job openings for local residents but also enrich the landscape with natural resources and aesthetics. In order to prevent disturbance to Fubao Ecological Park’s water bird habitat, entering the fence is forbidden, all trespassers will be prosecuted! CEO: 0958-763268
