Located near Changhua Gong Yuan Road, Jiexiao Shrine is the only county ancient monument in the nation that enshrines chaste women. The shrine is a sihe yuan consisting of two halls and two corridors and by order there are shanchun amen dai two-ear rooms, courtyard, xuan pavilion and main hall. Beside the shrine is a grassland and a hundred-year old tree. Inside the shrine there are two features: a wooden structure and color painting. Many of the sculpture skills and painting techniques are first of their kind in Taiwan. ( August 18 on lunar calendar- Jiexiao autumn worship)
The shrine to Virtue and Piety was constructed on the east side of Chenghuang Temple inside the East Gate of Changhua old city. It was completed in year 13 of Guangxu Period (1887), to pay tribute to 462 virtuous and pious women in central Taiwan. After the Sino-Japanese War, Japanese people invaded Taiwan and went on a rampage, burning and destroying everything in their path. The Shrine to Virtue and Piety was not spared.
Subsequently, the building was demolished for the urban road expansion project, and it was reconstructed at its current site in year 12 of the Taisho period (1923). In recent years, the Shrine to Virtue and Piety was completely restored, retaining a similar architectural structure in the form of four-section compound. Consisting of 2 halls and 2 corridors, the compound has a Shanchuan Gate, 2 wing room, courtyard, veranda and main hall. There is a green field and century-old tree next to the shrine. The 2 major characteristics of the Shrine to Virtue and Piety are: wooden structure and color painting, with many of them adorned with exquisite carvings and delicate paintings. The rare works of art deserve to be appreciated in all of their glory.
