Attraction sites特色
Built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, it was called “Baoan Temple” then. It was not until the reign of Emperor Daoguang that the local magistrate Tseng, Wei-Chen renamed this temple into “Wende Temple”, symbolizing “protecting the territory, appeasing people, and the promotion of literature and the education of morals.” The emperor knighted the Land God at the hometown of Magistrate Tsang sharing the same rank with him, and presenting him an imperial-made official cap. Now, it is the only Land God in Taiwan that is knighted by the emperor. The ancient ritual – welcoming the lantern activity of Wende Temple with more than one hundred years of history, was listed as a “Folk Cultural Asset” in 2008.
It has been moved and refurbished four times. When it was refurbished and moved, it became larger with more pilgrims. At both sides of the gate, there is a gate of rite and a virtue road. Later, the “Five Garrison Building” was built to worship the heavenly general and soldiers and exhibit the temple's collection. In short, this temple is laden with historic meanings.
