The 2026 Changhua Moon Shadow Lantern Festival grandly opened on December 27, 2025 at the Great Buddha Scenic Area on Mt. Bagua and will run until March 1, 2026, spanning 65 days. Each evening from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM, dazzling lights will illuminate the mountainside, blending circus-themed lantern installations with a special dual-IP collaborative light show featuring Rody and Chibi Maruko-chan, bringing joy as visitors welcome the new Year of the Horse.
For many years, the Changhua County Government has dedicated itself to building the Moon Shadow Lantern Festival into an internationally recognized tourism brand. The festival has won numerous awards and accolades, making the Mt. Bagua Scenic Area one of Taiwan’s most popular nighttime attractions.
【2026 Changhua Moon Shadow Lantern Festival — Rody Circus】 Highlights
1. Year of the Horse × Circus Fun
This year’s theme, “Rody Circus,” transforms Mt. Bagua into a whimsical circus world filled with childlike wonder. Multiple circus-themed lantern displays, a carousel, and spectacular light shows make it the perfect destination for families and photo enthusiasts.
2. Adorable Dual-IP Collaboration
Festival mascot Rody takes center stage, joined by the beloved Chibi Maruko-chan. Two officially licensed Rody lanterns will also be distributed, delighting visitors with their charm and cuteness.
3. Stunning Sound-and-Light Performances
The main lanterns — giant Rody and Chibi Maruko-chan — are the centerpieces of the light show, accompanied by the original licensed theme songs and familiar Mandarin voiceovers, creating a warm and immersive audiovisual experience.
In addition, Changhua native Giddens Ko’s latest Lunar New Year blockbuster Kung Fu joins the festival lineup. Every Friday through Sunday, a special laser light show inspired by the film will transport audiences into a fantastical martial arts world. Come enjoy the show to experience the dreamlike charm of shifting light and shadow at night.
A carousel ride will be available during the festival. Visitors can enjoy one free ride by presenting receipts or invoices (including e-invoices) totaling NT$300 or more spent in Changhua County between December 2025 and February 2026, or by adding the official LINE account “Changhua Travels” on-site.
