 The old name of Chang Hwa is Ban Xian, changing the name to give the city more significant meaning. Before the rise of TaiChung City, Chan Hwa had been the middle political center of Taiwan, as a result, insurrectionary always occupied it when they would like to betray government.
To avoid being easily taken by the insurrectionary, the county governor has asked fun to build batteries and city gates for Pa Gua Mountain. However, during the war with Japan it did not changed the fate of Chang Hwa being occupied by Japan. At present,
those batteries and city gates have become sightseeing spots.
